You may not bring another youth exhibitor's rabbits/cavies and show them for them. Any exhibitor who is physically challenged may receive help from their parent (s) or another family member or will be assigned an older youth member to assist them. Please clearly indicate on your show entry form any special needs that you will require in order to show. Parents and family members are not allowed to handle, groom, pet or care for the rabbits being shown or on display, with the exception of the barn superintendent (Jean Ann). 12. The Association reserves the right to substitute another judge or judges in place of those listed or appoint additional judges, if necessary.

13. Show display to consist of at least one entry in four different classes of the same breed.

14. This association guarantees the payment of Association awards.

15. All rabbits and cavies are shown at the risk of the exhibitor and the exhibitor is held liable for any injury to another exhibitor or animal. (i.e. if your rabbit bites someone, your parents are responsible for any medical care needed). By sending in your entry you are
stating that your parent's have a home-owners insurance policy that is in effect the days of the shows and they have liability ins.)

16. If you make an entry but do not show up, your entry fee will be forfeited.

17. Any damage done to the premises by children shall be the responsibility of their parents.

18. This is a one-day box show (carrying cage) show. Please bring all your show and pet rabbits and cavies the day of the show in a rabbit/cavy carrier (wire cage) with a solid bottom or solid tray. Please do not use a cat or small dog carrier since these will not allow for proper ventilation. There is no overnight cooping available. Cardboard boxes and cages also will not be allowed.

19. No rabbits are to be sold at the fair, no farm signs or for sale signs are permitted.

20. The show starts at
9:30 AM and all animals must be in place, groomed, coop number in ear and ready to show at that time. Plan on being on the fairgrounds no latter than 8:30 AM the day of the show. All cars must be off the fairgrounds by 9:30 AM. There will be no exceptions. You will not be allowed to drive back on the fairgrounds to pick up your rabbits/cavies at the end of the show. There will be shuttle rides (most likely a tractor ride!) to bring you and your rabbits back to your car. It would be a good idea to bring a cart.

21. Please see and follow display rules if you will be coming all 3 days of the fair and if you are an in state exhibitor. Please see pet class rules if showing in pet class.

22. The show committee reserves the right to amend these rules. Please call the show superintendent if you have any questions or concerns. Jean Ann
St. Pierre 603- 659-7091. Long distance phone calls will not be returned. E-Mail questions are always welcome!!!! Cottontailrabbitry@yahoo.com

DISPLAY RULES No entry fee

  1. Each in state exhibitor must have on display at the fairgrounds at least one rabbit for all 3 days of the fair. (July 27-29). Plan to bring at least one display rabbit on Fri., Sat., and Sun. and all your show rabbits on Fri. (Sat. for pet class). You do not need to bring your best rabbits every day. Cavies do not need to be displayed all three days of the fair.

    2. You must have a display and be at the fair all three days and be an in state exhibitor in order to receive paybacks, trophies and awards. The superintendent may give an exception to this rule. For example, if it is a very hot week,
Angora breeds will not have to be displayed. Out of state exhibitors are not to bring a display rabbit. Those ARBA members who are also showing other animals and are involved in other 4-H activities at the fair may do so and still have their display rabbit in the rabbit tent. You should plan on checking on your display animal several times during the day. This counts as being at the fair!

    3. If your rabbit becomes stressed out, the superintendent may also exempt your rabbit from being displayed. This must be discussed with and approved by the superintendent before deciding not to bring your rabbit(s).

    4. Meat pens do not need to be displayed all 3 days.

    5. There will be a health check done daily on each animal. Please have the health check done before bringing your rabbits/cavies into the rabbit show/display tent. Their owner will remove all sick and diseased animals from the fairgrounds immediately. The superintendent’s judgment in this matter is final and is not open to protest. Health regulations are much stricter this year due to the outbreak of hoof and mouth disease in
Europe. There may be a Vet. doing the health checks or Jean Ann, Suzette and Sarah will be doing them. Rabbits cannot get hoof and mouth disease.

    6. All exhibitors who are displaying a rabbit must arrive on the fairgrounds on
Thurs. July 26, 2001 from 11 AM - 1 PM or from 6-8 PM without their rabbit to be assigned coop numbers for their display and to clean and sterilize their own coop cage. Priority for coops will be given so that each exhibitor has a coop for one rabbit. Any extra coops available will first be given to those who wish to display different breeds or varieties that are not already on display.

    7. Again, over night cooping will not be available.

    8. Rabbits will be received from
8-9 AM each day for the display. (See show rule #20)

    9. You may drive up to the rabbit tent to drop off your rabbits and then move your car to the normal parking area by
9:30 AM. No cars are permitted to be parked on the fairgrounds.

    10. Your rabbits are to go home with you each evening at 5 PM. (3 PM on Saturday). However, you may not drive on the fairgrounds to pick them up. Since you must carry them out, it is suggested that you only bring just one display animal (plan to use this animal for showmanship) and a cart to bring them out to your car on Sat. and Sun. Shuttle rides to your car will be provided on Fri. when the show is over.

    11. Each in state exhibitor is expected to sign up for and spend at least 1- 2 hours a day in the rabbit tent answering questions, watering the rabbits and preventing them from getting heat stress. There should be enough exhibitors to fill the hours from 8 AM to 5 PM. An experienced exhibitor and a new exhibitor should take turns together whenever possible. The rest of the time is your own to spend relaxing, spending time on the fairgrounds, or taking part in 4-H activities and ARBA activities (Livestock Judging, Horticultural Judging and Home-Ec. Judging, Pig Scramble, Goat Milking, Pie Eating Contest, Rabbit Judging/Breed ID, Quiz Bowl, "Who Wants to be a Bunny Brain", Hands on Showmanship, Written Test). A sign up sheet for each day will be posted.

    12. There will be a 2 small shelters placed outside the rabbit tent. Your chairs, coolers and family members are welcome to join you under this tarp. This year we will keep the rabbit tent free from clutter and allow more space for the rabbit carriers for the show. Family members and parents are not to be in the rabbit tent except for helping you to bring in and take our your rabbits at night.

    13. We will have a lock for the tent this year so that we can lock it and everyone can enjoy the awards ceremony.

    14. Childcare will not be provided.

    15. See and follow show rules.

    16. You may not take your rabbit or cavy out of its carrier or cage for fair patrons or your friends and relatives to pet or see up close.
ANY EXHIBITOR OR PARENT found doing this will be immediately disqualified and will lose all paybacks, awards and trophies. Stratham Fair has let the rabbits in under ARBA rules without rabies vaccines. All rabbits and cavies are to be in their coops and carriers away from the viewing fence so that people are unable to reach in and potentially be bit or scratched.

PET CLASS RULES $1.00 each entry, no fur class

1. Pet class is for those exhibitors who own only pet rabbits or cavies.

2. An exhibitor cannot show both in pet and breed class.

3.  Pet class rabbits do not need to be tattooed. Pet class cavies do not need to be tagged.

4. Suzette St. Pierre will judge pet class. Sarah Smith will assist her. The show begins at 9:30 AM with cavies followed by the rabbits.

5. Please see and follow display and show rules. Especially rule #16.

6. Purebred rabbits with a disqualification, or who have been spayed or neutered, may be shown in pet class.

7. You may show up to 2 pet rabbits and/or 2 pet cavies. You may show a pet cavy on Sat. and a purebreed rabbit on Fri. OR you may show a breed cavy on Fri. and a pet rabbit on Sat. You may not show breed rabbits on Fri. and pet rabbits on Sat. You may not show breed cavies on Fri. and pet cavies on Saturday.

HERDSMANSHIP CONTEST No entry fee

Herdsmanship is a competition based on how the exhibitor cares for their animals on display. It is open to all ARBA N.H. Youth exhibitors. This is ranked according to how much time the exhibitor spends in the rabbit tent (not on the fairgrounds). 1-2 hours each day of the fair in the rabbit tent is required of each in state exhibitor anyway in order to show, and this will satisfy this requirement. All N.H. members who are also in 4-H and will be doing livestock judging on Fri. are not required to spend 1- 2 hours in the tent on Fri. You will be spending the day with the livestock judging. Please check on your rabbit(s) whenever you can. Please remember that the breed rabbit and cavy show is on Fri., so you may not be able to participate in Livestock Judging. There will be a sign up sheet in the rabbit tent every morning. Experienced members should work with a new member! Please bring your own chair. You should only be in the rabbit tent to show and when doing herdsmanship.

The judging will be based on how you care for your animals, how neat you keep the area (picking up trash in and around the tent), keeping all the animals from developing heat stress and watering them, being there on time, and your ability to answer the public’s questions (not just sitting in the tent). How you (not your parents) clean and sterilize your cages will be taken into account. Cages that are partially cleaned will cause an automatic drop in placement. Any exhibitor who is physically challenged may have a family member clean their cage (s) for them and will not receive a drop in placement unless the family member leaves the cage partially clean.

SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST $1.00 entry fee

Showmanship is not mandatory this year, but is encouraged. N.H. Exhibitors showing in breed and pet classes are welcome. The contest takes place over 2 days. Out of State exhibitors are welcome to participate, but will not receive premiums.

This is a learning experience and competition based on the ability of the exhibitor to correctly handle and examine their animal. Each exhibitor competing in showmanship needs to bring a clean, healthy rabbit or cavy to work with and their own grooming mat. Points will be deducted if you forget your mat. You should have long sleeves (a white shirt or show coat is preferable), no blue jeans or torn pants. Your hair should be out of your eyes, no gum chewing and no bulky necklaces or necklaces that will get in the way of showing your rabbit. Basic skills to be demonstrated are:

1. A one armed carry of your animal. 2. Turning the animal over on its back.

3. General health exam of the animal. 4. Knowledge of animal breeds, diseases and the ARBA.

5. The judge may ask questions with difficulty based on the level of experience.

CLASSES

PRE-NOVICE:
This is someone under the age of 8. They will work with a toy stuffed bunny.

NOVICE: This is someone in his or her first year of showing, at least 8 years old or you won the pre-novice level last year. If you showed in novice last year, you must advance to Junior this year.

JUNIOR: This is someone in his or her second to fourth year of showing.

SENIOR: This is someone with five or more years of experience showing.

Hands on showmanship will start Sat. after the rabbit judging and will be done by our judge, Paul Jurgelonis, and by the rabbit superintendent Jean Ann St. Pierre. Paul will be doing the advanced group. We will finish the hands on showmanship on Sat. after the pet show if we run out of time on Fri. The written test must be taken on Sat. by 3 PM. Your hands on score and your written test scores will be added together and divided by two to give your final placement score. If you decide to do just the hands on or just the written test, your final score will be half of what you did complete.

Pre-novice will have 10 questions and should be able to recognize at least 5 breeds of rabbits.

Novice will have 25 questions and the parts of the rabbit will be worth 5 points extra credit. You are expected to be able to identify 10 breeds of rabbits correctly.

Junior will have 50 questions, which will include the parts of the rabbit. You are expected to identify 20 breeds of rabbits correctly.

Senior will have 100 questions, which will include the parts of the rabbit. You are expected to identify all the breeds of rabbits correctly.

5 points extra credit for the junior and senior group will come from any teaching sheet (including e-mail information) handed out to Granite State Youth members in the past 3 years.

Copies of teaching sheets will not be made available to non-members.

Showmanship questions will come from the A.R.B.A. Standard of Perfection, Domestic Rabbit Magazine, the A.R.B.A. Official Guidebook and any and all handouts given to the Granite State Youth RBA.

RABBIT JUDGING/BREED ID. $1.00 entry fee

Open to all N.H. Youth ARBA members who are not competing in 4-H Livestock Judging. Out of state ARBA youth members are welcome to compete, but will not receive premiums.

You will be given 4 rabbits to judge just like our real judge does! You have 7 minutes to look over and place all 4 rabbits! The classes will be the same as showmanship. Pre-Novice will have the rabbits posed for them and they will just point to the ones they want in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Novice will pose the rabbits, go over them and then place them. Novice does not need to look for disqualifications. The junior and senior groups will need to look for disqualifications, pose them, go over them – and then place them. It is suggested that you study your Standard of Perfection – especially the area on general disqualifications. You will be allowed to use your Standard (bring it with you!) during this competition. The Breed/ID section will consist of several breeds of rabbits/and/or cavies. The pre-novice group will just give me the name of each breed. The novice group will write down the breed and variety. The intermediate and advanced groups will write down the breed, variety and showroom classification! Please remember that some rabbit's showroom classification is by variety, groups or standard. This competition takes the place of Livestock Judging for those who are showing on Fri. and are unable to compete in Livestock Judging. If you enter the regular Livestock Judging on Fri., you may still compete in the Rabbit Judging and Breed ID, but you will not receive any premiums.

We will have "hot" seat (well, it is July and the seats should be hot anyway!), buzzers and hopefully some music. Maybe we can get some fair patrons to play. This will be on Sat. at 2 PM. (It was previously scheduled for Sun., but we changed the day so it would not conflict with the Pig Scramble, which is usually on Sun. at 1 PM).

You do not need to sign up in advance for this.

COSTUME CLASS $2.00 entry fee

Costume class is a competition on Sun. morning. Judging starts at 10 AM in the rabbit tent. The exhibitors dress themselves and their rabbit/cavy up in an outfit to represent a theme of their choice. The costumes should be either made by the exhibitor (NOT the parents or relatives!!!), or put together by the exhibitor from things around the house or old Halloween costumes. Some ideas from years past; Dorothy and Toto, Scuba Divers, Mom and Baby, Gone Fishing, Sunflower and Ladybug. This can really show a child's creative side and it is SO MUCH FUN!!! Each child will receive a ribbon (there are many deserving of a blue ribbon), a certificate with their theme on it and a picture of themselves and their rabbit/cavy. There will be cash awards for N.H. exhibitors for 1st ($10), 2nd ($5) and 3rd place ($3).

RABBIT HURDLING DEMO.

Sarah Smith, one of our members, has been teaching her rabbits to jump over hurdles. She will give a demonstration of this on Sun. at 11 AM in the rabbit tent. This may be a new competition next year if there is enough interest!

COLORING CONTEST $1.00 entry fee

This contest will be on Sun. You will be given a picture and you color it being as creative as you wish! Crayons and markers will be available to share with others. Please remember to print your name on the back of the picture! Please bring a clipboard to color on. Judging will take place at 4 PM after Quiz Bowl and before the Awards Ceremony. We have separated the classes by age groups due to popular demand. Most 6 year olds do not color as well as 16 year olds!

There will be ribbons for everyone who competes. There will be special prizes for first, second and third place in pre-novice (5-7), novice (8-11), junior (12-15) and senior (16-18).

QUIZ BOWL (No entry fee)

This competition will take place in the 4-H Exhibit Building on Sun. at 3 PM. Teams will be picked out by drawing names out of a bag. You will have buzzer boxes and the rules are the same as we have been practicing. There will be head to head questions and toss up questions. Each team that wins will advance to the next level until we have a 1st place, 2nd and 3rd place team. N.H. youth exhibitors will each receive a $7 premium for being on the team that finishes first, $4 each for the second place team and $2 each for the third place team.

THINGS TO BRING ALL 3 DAYS

For you:  hat, wear shoes or sneakers (no sandals), sunblock, show coat or long sleeve white shirt, pen/pencil, Standard of Perfection, clipboard, food, drink or money to buy food, your own chair! I hate to say this, but an umbrella may be a good idea…you never know in the summer. Sometimes sunglasses are a good idea. Chairs for other members of your family.

For your rabbit(s): A healthy display bunny each day if you are an in-state exhibitor. Grooming mat, grooming supplies, fine tipped black magic marker, spray bottle (misting bottle), frozen water bottle to place in your rabbit's cage if it is hot out. Water bottle or bowl, hay, feed dish and food if your rabbit will have food at the show. A proper rabbit or cavy carrier. On Sun. you will need your costumes!!!

Please print off the next 2 entry forms, fill them out and mail them with your rabbit show entry, copy of your ARBA card and your entry money before July 11th.
